LABORATORY FACILITIES

Civil Engineering Material Testing Lab




The material Testing Lab of the department gives an insight to the behavior of building materials through scientific studies and shapes an engineer's perspective on the functional properties of materials. The available facilities include Universal Testing machines (200, 100 & 60 tones), spring testing machines, machines for testing hardness, flexural strength, impact strength, title abrasion, etc.
SURVEY LAB
This lab introduce the students to the basics of plan and geodetic surveying using precision Instruments like total station, levels, micro-optic and electronic theodolites, plane table and compass. This lab gives sufficient exposure to the students in the relevant and up-to-date aspects of surveying. Consultancy works from major public and private organizations are also undertaken.
GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING LAB
It concentrates on foundation engineering with emphasis on soil sampling and site investigation, using equipments like direct and triaxial shear apparatus, consolidometer, plate load testing machine, unconfined compression testing machine etc... Investigation for shallow and deep foundation is also carried out. It undertakes consultancy services in soil investigation, testing and foundation design.
SURVEY LAB
The Transportation Lab of the department has specialized facilities like California bearing ratio apparatus, marshal stability testing machine, Los Angeles abrasion test apparatus, impact test machine and other equipments to analyze the quality of bitumen. The focus here is on the pavement design of highways and runways.
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING LAB
It primary deals with physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of portable water and sewage. The lab maintains equipments like microprocessor based gas chromatogaph, BOD incubator, refrigerator centrifuge, turbidity meter etc.
COMPUTER LAB
The departmental computer lab has a client-server computing facility. There are more than 80 systems connected through LAN. The lab is also equipped with interne facility. It has the latest design and plotting software like STAAD, Auto CAD, STRAP, NISA Civil, and SAP etc.

Mechanical Engineernig



CAD /CAM LAB
This sophisticated lab caters to the syllabi requirement related to the latest trends in manufacturing and automation. The lab is fully equipped with the CNC machines and modem CAD / CAM software covering computer aided design, analysis and manufacturing fields.The department conducts regular training programmes in "CAD / CAM / CAE software" and "CNC Programming and Operators" under the continuing Education scheme.
FLUID MECHANICS AND MACHINES LAB
The Fluid Mechanics and Machines Lab house various teat rigs on hydraulic machines like Pelton, kaplan and Francis turbines. Experiments are conducted on the different types of pumps ranging from centrifugal to gear pumps. A separate section is devoted to display cut modals of different components of pumps and turbines. The Fluid Mechanics section deals with various flow measuring devices like venturimeters, orificerneters and notches. Other experimental set-ups include the Bernaulli apparatus, a hydraulic and a recently introduced cavitation test rig.
INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL LAB
It provides an introduction to instrumentation engineering with the focus on areas of industrial calibration, psychrometry etc. It also has various equipments like ultra sonic flaw detector, optical profile projector, which are widely used in industries all over the world. It is also equipped with devices to analyze theexhaust gas ofvehicles. It undertakes the calibration of pressure gauges.
MACHINE SHOP
The Machine Shop of the department provides the necessary exposure to the different machining process. The facilities available here include various types of lathes, shaping, grinding, plaining, slotting, and milling machines. Different short-term courses are organized on the various machining processes.
THERMAL ENGINEERING LAB
The Thermal Engineering Lab provides a platform for the students to launch into the world ofengines. The available facilities include test rigs for diesel and petrol engines, compressors and blowers. A separate section is devoted to the performance of vapour compression refrigerator system. The lab is well equipped to determine the calorific value and other parameters of any fuel used in engines.
HEAT TRANSFER LAB
The Heat Transfer Lab deals with different experimental set­ups on the study, analysis and measurement o f heat transfer. The facilities available include heat exchangers, emissivity measuring apparatus, and different experimental set-ups on conduction, convection and radiation.
BASIC WORKSHOPS
The basic workshop of the Mechanical Engineering department is where the students study the fundamentals of workshop practice. The first year students of all the departments are required to attend the workshop classes here. The basic workshop has different sections namely
CARPENTRY, SMITHY, FOUNDARY, FITTING, WELDING and
SHEET METAL.
COMPUTER LAB
The department of Mechanical Engineering has a separate Computer center and is well equipped with a server and about 70 new generation PCs connected in LAN. It is provided with latest accessories like printers, scanners, CD writers etc. In addition to the software available in the CAD / CAM lab of the department, the computer center has other application software, which are used by the students on a regular basis.
MODEL'S ROOM
The department is proud to have a big and diverse collection of still and working models relating to different streams of Mechanical Engineering. All the models are neatly displayed in a separate room and is open on all working days.

Electrical And Electronics Engineering



ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP
The students get exposure to various wiring materials, MCB, ELCB etc and get training in the electrical wiring system, design and installation. The fluorescent lamp and incandescent lamp circuits with different controls are familiarized here.
ELECTRICAL MEASURMENTS LAB
The basic theorems in electrical engineering are experimentally verified. The lab also provides an intensive introduction in calibration of energy meters, magnetic measurements, inductance, capacitance measurements and various DC and AC potentiometers.
ELECTRICAL MACHINE LAB
The students get an insight into the wide array to heavy electrical machines. The installed facilities include DC machines, three phase slip ring and squirrel cage induction motors, synchronous machines, transformers, pole changing motor etc.
ELECTRONICS LAB
The students get exposure to various wiring materials, MCB, ELCB etc and get training in the electrical wiring system, design and installation. The fluorescent lamp and incandescent lamp circuits with different controls are familiarized here.
ADVANCED ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING LAB
It deals within an in-depth analysis of control system using sophisticated equipments like PID controllers, magnetic amplifiers, LVDTs, synchro transmission receiver and the like. With an overview of the basic principles of power electronics, the emphasis is laid on various controllers using SCRs, UJTs, DIACS, and TRIACS etc. It also houses 8085 and 8086 microprocessor kits, Pentium-based personal computers, interfacing devices like DAC, ADC, audio tape interface stepper motor interfaces, which helps the student to get acquainted with the concept of assembly language programming and interfacing principles.
INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL LAB
The depar tmental computer lab is equipped with two high end servers and forty numbers of computers, connected in LAN. In addition to the laser, inkjet and dot matrix printers, the lab also has scanners, CD writer and a Xerox machine. To develop the computational skills of students, advanced computational 24 software like MATLAB, Multisim and SKM power tools are installed and regular laboratory experiments are conducted using these software.
MODEL'S ROOM
The Model's room displays various models including dismantled electrical machines and other equipments, which help in understanding the physical concepts of electrical systems

Electronics and Communication Engineering



ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS LAB
This is the basic and the core lab, which introduces a student to the world of electronics equipments. This lab emphasizes on installing in the students, like skills of designing and developing a wide range of electronic circuits using modem testing and measuring instruments like cathode ray oscilloscopes, function generators, digital multi meters, LCR meters etc. Electronics circuits of systems such as rectifiers, fitters, amplifiers, oscillators are analyzed in this laboratory.
COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING LAB
This laboratories introduces students to the field of communication engineering with sophisticated instruments like AF / RF generators, higher bandwidth oscilloscopes, frequency counters etc. The communication engineering laboratory deals with experiments in analog and digital communication. The students are introduced to different types of modulation techniques like AM and FM.A series of experiments are carried out in this laboratory, which include TDM, ASK, PSK, PAM, PPM and PLL.
DIGITAL ELECTRONICS LAB
In the digital electronics laboratory, the students are led to the interesting world of digital IC circuits. It facilities an in-depth analysis of sequential and combinational type of digital electronic circuits. This include circuits with flip flops, counters, shift registers, sequence generators, code converters etc.
MICROPROCESSOR LAB
This laboratory introduces the students to microprocessors, microcontrollers and assembly language programming. Various experiments with 8086 microprocessor and 8051 microcontroller, interfacing them with stepper motor, ADC, DAC etc. are carried out in laboratory. It also has the facility to train the students with macro assembler (MASM / TASM).
MICROWAVE LAB
The microwave laboratory gives the students an exposure to the microwave equipment and components. Experiments such as VSWR measurement and determination of Klystron characteristics give the students a hand-on experiment on microwave systems.
SOFTWARE LAB
Software laboratory aims at developing the programming skills of students with emphasis on technical computing and simulation software like MAT LAB, VHDL, PSPICE etc. This laboratory is equipped with PCs and accessories like.
printers, scanners, LCD projectors etc. it also offers interment facilities of the students and staff of the department for acquainting them with latest technological trends and developments.
